Description Anuj Verma (Kevin) (reporter) 2007-01-27 18:58:02 UTC
This is to refer a storage utilization enhancement.

There should be a default addressed to all applications based on Maemo to use a
storage card instead of built-in storage for any application data accept for
preferences.

This improves usage experience and keeps the data segregated and makes the Maemo
devices seamless for maintenance activities.

Contrary to that there should be a standard option to opt to use a particular
storage card or internal memory unless specified first storage card is used, I
assume the one next to battery in N800.

This enhancement request goes contrary the desing decisions, proposing WONTFIX.

I am disappointed to know of the Nokia/Maemo design short commings.

CCing Roope from the UI team.

As far as I see this:

- As Jakub commented, there was a thought about this and there was a decision
to make the own device default. This behavior makes sense (this doesn't mean
that your proposal doesn't).

- Now users have backup functionality to keep their data when upgrading. In the
future the plan is to have software upgrades via packages, not affecting your
data at all. This is our context and perspective when taking this decision.

- As far as I know this is the current default behavior in computers and mobile
phones. Users will not be surprised if the tablet follows the same behavior. If
this is bothering them, they can also save elsewhere, as we all do in other
computers and mobile devices.

I also suggest WONTFIX.

Yes, WONTFIX.
