SOFTWARE VERSION: (Settings > General > About product) EXACT STEPS LEADING TO PROBLEM: (Explain in detail what you do (e.g. tap on OK) and what you see (e.g. message Connection Failed appears)) 1. Open File Manager EXPECTED OUTCOME: The 'cities' folder should be hidden from the user. - It's content has a complicated structure so accessing it via n900 file manager is unreasonable. - This folder is updated via Ovi maps itself, or by more experienced user via USB connection, there's no documentation about this folder in the instruction. - File manager has no portrait mode, and the folder list is quite short, 'removing' one folder would allow a tiny faster access to other folders which are more important for the user (less scrolling). - MyDocs view has personalized directories (Images, Camera etc..) so it could also keep 'cities' as a hidden directory, however still accessible by Ovi Maps and USB connection ACTUAL OUTCOME: The Ovi 'cities' folder is visible in the MyDocs folder list which is unreasonable. REPRODUCIBILITY: (always, less than 1/10, 5/10, 9/10) 10/10 EXTRA SOFTWARE INSTALLED: OTHER COMMENTS: User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US) AppleWebKit/533.2 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/5.0.342.7 Safari/533.2
While I personally agree with this, Nokia "decided not to implement this. This might cause additional problems and risks, and user might also want to remove the maps content in order to free memory."
Is there any documentation how 'advanced' user can do this on his own device? That would be enough as a partial solution. Nokia's 2nd argument regarding freeing space is still unreasonable, because the user can't delete a specified region of the maps (because of the complicated structure of the directory). It will be easier for the user to remove other easily acessible data eg. movies which take the same amount of space (avg. one coutry ~500MB).
I highly assume that the folder name is hardcoded in the Maps code so I don't think there is a solution. :-(
Well, I meant if it's possible to do in the filesystem. Like it's done with .video and such directories which are visible as Videos etc. However .videos are treated by default as hidden, maybe there's possibility to edit come configuration file to not show 'cities' directory in the File Manager.
