maemo.org Bugzilla – Bug 9727
Download counter could link to some further information

You need to
before you can comment on or make changes to this bug.
It would be nice to see some more information about exactly what the download
counter on http://maemo.org/downloads/Maemo5/ counts.
This could be down by adding a link below the counter, or maybe turning the
whole "5687121 downloads served for Maemo 5" text into a link. The target page
could explain that the counter counts both downloads direct from the website,
downloads from Application Manager (from packages in the "maemo.org" repository
only, not those from Nokia or Ovi Store), and upgrades of packages from
Application Manager, assuming that is true. In particular, you might want to
add that the counter doesn't include firmware upgrades, whether done by
Application Manager or NSU, as I saw this asked as a question in talk.maemo.org
(I guess the person was trying to get some kind of idea about how many N900s
had been sold).
The page could also say the date when the counting first started. If you have
the data, maybe some fancy graphs showing how the downloads per month or per
week have changed over time would be nice.
