SOFTWARE VERSION: 3.2010.02-8 EXACT STEPS LEADING TO PROBLEM: (Explain in detail what you do (e.g. tap on OK) and what you see (e.g. message Connection Failed appears)) 1. Flashed with latest updated firmware... 2. Flashed device with vanilla emmc 3. Nokia messaging service no longer appears under service providers durring email setup. EXPECTED OUTCOME: Setup of email account ACTUAL OUTCOME: No access to the service REPRODUCIBILITY: Always (always, less than 1/10, 5/10, 9/10) EXTRA SOFTWARE INSTALLED: None OTHER COMMENTS: None, just need access to the service.. User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X 10_6_2; en-us) AppleWebKit/531.22.7 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0.5 Safari/531.22.7
Try to do the following please: Install rootsh from Application Manager, open terminal and type: sudo gainroot mv .modest modestbackup Then open modest (email client) and try again.
Attempted, still not showing. When I did flash the device I flashed firmware then, cleared emmc following...could that have anything to do with it? Was thinking about trying clearing the emmc then flashing again... You could try that, as it's what the wiki says, when reflashing don't add -R at the end, after reflashing both, type flasher-3.5 -R
Reflashed accordingly...still no luck (In reply to comment #3) > You could try that, as it's what the wiki says, when reflashing don't add -R at > the end, after reflashing both, type flasher-3.5 -R >
For future reference, please do not set priority to High. Can you try flash eMMC and firmware as well to bring the phone back to factory state.
Well sorry about that, it's just a high priority issue to me as well a few others i know having the problem. It's very frustrating becuase I cannot find an answer as to why this happens or means to fix my issue. I've done the reflash and so have others, tried diff. sim, selected different regions, and removed the battery; everything... Priority is set by developers. Have you flashed eMMC?
Yes quite a few times as stated... (In reply to comment #7) > Priority is set by developers. > > Have you flashed eMMC? >
*** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 8085 ***
Just reflashed, and I can confirm that Nokia Messaging is visible. Closing as WORKSFORME
Reflashing doesn't work (In reply to comment #10) > Just reflashed, and I can confirm that Nokia Messaging is visible. > Closing as WORKSFORME >
What are your country and region settings, which country and provider is your SIM card from, and which eMMC image do you have (if you know, like in which country did you buy the N900)?
Are you letting the device check for Nokia services? If so, it's not available in your country.
US on tmobile, was there before but did reflash with latest bin and also emc and no longer there...i ordered att sim off of ebay to try since that apparently is the only fix... Please also answer the rest of my questions... (And please do not fullquote and do not answer above the quote.)
I seriously dont get what your not understanding....Its a us sim card and it checks for service providers i select us and no nokia messaging is there and sorry for not knowing the entire name of the bin, i use the vanilla emc and the latest available bin file. All of which i've answered, this bug report has been goin on forever. The only fix seems to be a cingular sim card with the n900 on wifi
confirming that att sim method works on wifi
(In reply to comment #17) > confirming that att sim method works on wifi > So the issue for Nokia Messaging not showing up is being you're connecting to carrier's network when attempting to retrieve the providers? And that the workaround/solution for this is to connect via Wifi and retrieve the providers instead? Can you confirm? Thanks
Yea believe the issue is related to tmobile's issues with data packet connections. Have a friend that like me just lost his nokia msging today and many others on forums around with the issue on tmobile. I ordered att sim off of ebay for 5 bucks plugged it in (non activated) and used wifi and it pulled in the nokia msging carrier keyed in my settings, turned the phone off and placed my tmobile sim back in now i'm good to go
I also see this with my US T-Mobile SIM Card in. Did the dev that marked as WORKSFORME actually try with a US T-Mobile SIM card put in ?
(In reply to comment #20) > Did the dev that marked as WORKSFORME There was no dev but the reporter. Feel free to file a separate new report with exact steps... Thanks!
Andre, I got confused because the only mention of marking as WORKSFORME on the comments is from Mohammad. Comment #10 from Mohammad Abu-Garbeyyeh 2010-04-23 22:37:06 GMT+3 [reply] Just reflashed, and I can confirm that Nokia Messaging is visible. Closing as WORKSFORME I now looked closer at the bug activity and saw that submitter also marked it as WORKSFORME later: However I don't think that the submitter using an AT&T SIM tp sidestep the issue constitutes a valid reason for a resolution with WORKSFORME. Just so I understand, you wish me to file a new bug, so that it gets marked as duplicate of this one because it has the same steps ?
Yes, a clean and new report, specifically for your provider (please mention in the summary), with exact steps. Thanks. :)
