Hi cocayden, thanks for reporting this! The steps are unfortunately still a
little bit vague...

How exactly can I "see" this?

> 4. go to settings and manually select a network

What are the steps for this, click by click?

> 5. No access message is given

How long did you wait? No output at all?

> 6. Switch to offline
> 7. switch to online mode
> 8. still no cellular connection

So did you try again manually? Or does this refer to expecting an automatic
connection after switching to online mode again?

> 9. reboot
> 10. cellular connection returns

How many bars are displayed now?

> Network is OPTUS AU (also called YES OPTUS)

Also wondering whether this might be related to bug 6484...

The top status bar shows no 'bars' where the bars should be.
>
> > 4. go to settings and manually select a network

Settings>Phone> Network Selection > Manual> select my provider in this case Yes
OPTUS. Wait for a while a no access error is displayed
>

A minute or two. Multiple retries does not fix the issues

Yes I did try again manually.

Full bars on a 3.5G connection(depends on where I am). I have had it happen in
area which have no reception and when I return to a known full signal location
and try the steps above a no access error is given as well.

I actually had this issue today but it reconnected after putting into offline
mode and then returning to normal mode. The connection is not present when the
bug I have described occurs.

Same error with my brand new device. when turning on device in areas with low
signal str and no 3g support, then my device shows no connection error when
trying to call and no signal bar is present on desktop notification area.
Networks I used to test were Elisa Estonia and EMT

I have the same problem, this is what exactly happens with my device:
-I have normal strenght of connection, 4 bars
-Between my clock and the battery indicator shows up my SIM card with a red
diagonal stripe across it
-Sometimes after that my connection bars shown transparant, not white
-After that i got my connection back for 5 a 10 minutes.
-Most of the times i got the next report:

Alle telefoonfuncties, waaronder noodoproepen, zijn uitgeschakeld vanwege een
communicatiefout. Mogelijk dient u het apparaat opnieuw op te starten om de
fout te hertsellen.

Translated:

All phone functions, including emergency calls are disabled due to a
communication error. You may need the device to restart the error to recount.

-After a reboot i got my connection back for a short time, but the problem
occurs after a couple minutes again.

I tried to reflash my device.
I tried several SIM cards from other providers.
I friendly bowed the contact pins of the SIM card

None of this helps.

My provider is HI from the Netherlands
This problem started 30th May till now, the problem occurs continuous
There's no diverence between 2G or 3G
Unfortunaly when i look for my version: <unknown> !?

I hope there's a solution for thus BUG

Quoting Nokia:
"We do not have a clue about root cause. This problem has had 3 fixes already
but problems persits. As we have not yet found a way to reproduce the problem
we just have to live with the fixes we got. => WONTFIX"

Hello
I have exactly the same problem on my N900.
I am from Portugal and my ISP is TMN. I'm looking for an answer but I find
nothing. Can you help me please?
I've tested with several SIM cards from other operators and the result is the
same.

After our company changed the operator in Finland from Sonera to Elisa this
problem happens few times a day to one a week. Before that it did not happen.
Symptoms are the loss of network == no bars. Maybe this syslog have some needed
