SOFTWARE VERSION: 1.2009.42-11 EXACT STEPS LEADING TO PROBLEM: Press Ctrl-F on the desktop EXPECTED OUTCOME: Universal search on the device contents ACTUAL OUTCOME: Nothing REPRODUCIBILITY: (always, less than 1/10, 5/10, 9/10) always EXTRA SOFTWARE INSTALLED: none OTHER COMMENTS: A universal search function is common. The last iterations of S60 have it. So should the N900. User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.1.5) Gecko/20091102 Firefox/3.5.5 (.NET CLR 3.5.30729)
Thanks for reporting this. For future reference, please do not set priority to High. Currently just typing on the Desktop will start searching for Contacts, no Control+F needed. Implementing a system wide search is quite complex I guess and it's unclear to me what would be covered - file names, file contents, everything? The scope of bugs.maemo.org are bugs and only very specific and no-brainer enhancement requests. This report contains a feature request that is too generic for bugs.maemo.org. Please post this problem and propose your solution in Maemo Brainstorm instead: http://maemo.org/community/brainstorm/ More information: http://wiki.maemo.org/Maemo_brainstorm

I switched to N900 from my E90 and the In-device search feature was an awesome utility that helped me find keywords in Contacts, Notes, Files, Tasks etc. With this feature not available in N900, I'm not sure if this was really an upgrade or a downgrade. Please do let me know when an application for In-Device or Universal search will be developed for it.
