SOFTWARE VERSION: 1.2009.42-11 EXACT STEPS LEADING TO PROBLEM: (Explain in detail what you do (e.g. tap on OK) and what you see (e.g. message Connection Failed appears)) 1. Create address book contact with IM-provided avatar (via merge) 2. wait for a person to go offline and maybe some more EXPECTED OUTCOME: Latest IM avatar kept as contact picture ACTUAL OUTCOME: No contact picture at all REPRODUCIBILITY: don't know exactly when it happens, will try to investigate further. EXTRA SOFTWARE INSTALLED: OTHER COMMENTS: User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9.1) Gecko/20090621 Remi/fc6 Firefox/3.5 GTB6
I was trying to investigate it further, looks quite disappointing: contact pictures appear and disappear with no apparent pattern: a picture may reappear while the contact is offline and disappear while it is online.
> EXPECTED OUTCOME: > Latest IM avatar kept as contact picture When merging, what account was what? And which one had the contact picture? > ACTUAL OUTCOME: > No contact picture at all It could be using the contact picture of the one you merged without the contact picture. I'm not sure which priority it is. I believe actual contact profile takes priority over IM profile picture.
(In reply to comment #2) > > EXPECTED OUTCOME: > > Latest IM avatar kept as contact picture > When merging, what account was what? And which one had the contact picture? It usually does happen when IM server-based contact has a picture and local one does not, but i've seen vice versa situation at least twice, it is just harder to reproduce. > > ACTUAL OUTCOME: > > No contact picture at all > It could be using the contact picture of the one you merged without the contact > picture. > > I'm not sure which priority it is. > I believe actual contact profile takes priority over IM profile picture. Yes, but if there is no picure at all, it should have zero priority, right?
(In reply to comment #3) > Yes, but if there is no picure at all, it should have zero priority, right? Correct. This should be fixed. When there are no picture, it takes the picture of whatever is available.
..and it should not be deleted if online account it is associated with suddenly becomes unavailable for whatever reason.
Which protocol are you using? Jabber, MSN or what? Does the contact contain only a single chat username or multiples (like a skype one + one gmail one)? Does this happens only with a single contact or with different contacts in your address book?
Gtalk, at least. It happens to multiple contacts, though i am unsure if all of them have multiple IM fields.
I confirm too the bug. When my IM contacts go online i see the picture. When they go offline the picture is lost. I'm using Skype, MSN and Gtalk accounts and the bug occurs both for single than multiple chat usernames.
Sorry, but I cannot reproduce at all. If anybody finds out more details they could be very useful for me. For MSN (with haze, I think) there are some known problems with avatars, but I didn't have time yet to fix them. For jabber (plain jabber, ovi and gtalk) and skype avatars should work and I never saw this problem, all the problems I saw recently are due to other buggy clients or servers. It could be useful if the next time you see this bug you can connect to the same account configured on the n900 on your PC too and see what the avatars are.
Just seen that again. There is a contact avatar associated with ovi.com IM. Ovi.com goes offline, a few *hours* later (not immediately!) avatar diappears. (In reply to comment #9) > Sorry, but I cannot reproduce at all. If anybody finds out more details they > could be very useful for me.
