Description thomas (reporter) 2009-11-18 00:35:12 UTC
SOFTWARE VERSION:
1.2009.42-11

STEPS TO REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM:
pre: use a scandinavion keyboard layout.
1. open calendar
2. start typing, and include å, ä or ö. either as the first letter, or second,
or latter, but then type very quick.

EXPECTED OUTCOME:
the letter å, ä or ö should be noted in the newly created event just as any
other letter.

ACTUAL OUTCOME:
å, ä, or ö do not show. it's impossible to start an event with either one of
these letters, and if it's the second or later letter, one has to wait until
the new event is visible, before the character gets recognized.
REPRODUCIBILITY:
(always/sometimes/once)

EXTRA SOFTWARE INSTALLED:

Thanks for reporting this.

I cannot reproduce this and would like to see another confirmation by a second
user...

For future reference please always provide exact steps:
Settings > Text Input > Hardware keyboard layout.

I can only guess here that you talk about "Soumi, Svenska" and not "Dansk,
Norsk" as the latter languages have an Ø instead of an Ö.

This works fine here in 2.2009.46-16 in the "New event > Title" text input
field. It's unclear to me where exactly this is not shown for you.

Please always fill this in.

Does this only happen in Calendar, or also in other applications?
Comment 2 thomas (reporter) 2009-11-18 16:29:34 UTC
suomi / svenska, yes.

example: when in the calendar i type "åbo", a new event is created but in the
new event title only "bo" is shown. "köp" becomes "kp", but if i type k, wait
for the event to be created, then type ö, it works. "abo" would of course
produce "abo" regardless of typing speed.

reproducibility: always

dashboard typing to search for particular contact: ok.
media player music section: ok.
Comment 4 Lucas Maneos 2009-11-21 20:05:11 UTC
I can reproduce this on 1.2009.42-11 (note to self: å is on ",", ö on "." and ä
on the up arrow key on the en/nl model) and also for example with "Italiano"
layout and the same keys and even with "English, Nederlands" layout and the £/€
currency keys.

Worse: with Russian layout, the key presses entered before the "New event"
dialog is up (and even a bit after if typing very quickly) produce latin
characters instead. This one is also reproducible in the home screen (contact
search) but not in media player so it may be a separate bug but it's at least
related.

The "type quick" factor and non-reproducibility on 46-16 could mean bug 5972
may also be related.

I *assume* that this has been fixed in the meantime as I cannot reproduce this
with a newer internal version, but I cannot find any internal ticket for
Calendar about this when searching for ({umlaut | character | letter})...

Can you please try this and post your result:

1. Set Settings > Text input > Keyboard layout == Danish/Norwegian.
2. Open notes.
3. Choose font MHeiGB18030C-Medium.
4. Try to type the letter ø using the hardware keyboard.

I wonder if it is related. (Note to myself: int-146820)

Please mark as FIXED.
Comment 9 Lucas Maneos 2010-01-04 03:15:45 UTC
Definitely not fixed in 2.2009.51-1, everything is still as described in the
original report and comment 4.

Such comments are unhelpful. Explain why, what you did, what your settings are,
in which version. Thanks :)

I've run into this bug too, the swedish word "Överraskning" means surprise and
that's what I got when the letter Ö didn't show up .. :P
