Description Clemens Brandt (reporter) 2009-10-22 17:54:23 UTC
SOFTWARE VERSION:
N900 with Maemo 5 from the Maemo Summit in Amsterdam

STEPS TO REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM:
Select a wireless network that redirects to a login page. In my case it was the
wireless network of Hotel Lucia in Portland (http://www.hotellucia.com/).

My desktop contained various widgets: Mauku, Facebook, Weather, Location.

The device crashes shortly (around 15 seconds) after selecting the wireless
network -- I assume it was the point when the widgets are trying to pull data
from the web.
The device then reboots and after 15 seconds of being able to seeing the home
screen it crashes again, hence it falls into a loop. I wasn't able to turn the
device off for some reason and after maybe around 20 crashes I cannot turn it
on anymore. I cannot access the device via a computer either -- it is
completely dead.

EXPECTED OUTCOME:
The device crashes after booting, around 15 seconds once the desktop is
visible.
Multiple crashes lead to final device failure.

ACTUAL OUTCOME:

REPRODUCIBILITY:
(always/sometimes/once)

EXTRA SOFTWARE INSTALLED:
Widgets: Mauku, Facebook, Weather, Location

OTHER COMMENTS:
I am sending my N900 device to Terhi Nousu (contact that is specified in the
product loan agreement from the Maemo Summit).

Did the Crash reporter pop up (if you had it installed) and did you send a core
dump?
Would also be interesting to know about the feedback by Nokia, hence keeping
moreinfo.

I hadn't installed it unfortunately and I wasn't able to once it started
crashing.

I haven't heard back yet but I forwarded the bugzilla bug id. Hopefully they
will comment here as well.

I was not able to recreate this issue.
I connected to my work's Wifi, it shows up a login page. I login with my
credential. After login everything seems fine. I did not observe any crashes.

I'm using the Retail N900 with 1.2009.42-11

I'm not sure, but I think the reporter was just selecting the wireless network,
but not yet logging onto it, so that might be different from your testing.
Comment 5 Andre Klapper maemo.org 2010-01-14 12:32:37 UTC
Today Nokia released the Maemo5 update version 2.2009.51-1 for public (also
called "PR1.1" sometimes).
If you have some time we kindly ask you to test again if the problem reported
here still happens in this new version - just leave a comment (and feel free to
update the "Version" field to the new version if it's still a problem).

I haven't received the device back from Nokia unfortunately...

Can you please test this again running the latest available release? The latest
release should be available through the Application Manager. On a related note,
also see https://wiki.maemo.org/Updating_the_firmware for more information on
how to flash your tablet.
Comment 8 Andre Klapper maemo.org 2010-03-04 13:46:38 UTC
I don't see why this should be fixed. Reverting status.

Closing as WORSKFORME for the time being, as I cannot reproduce using the steps
given, but please feel free reopen if this happens again and if possible please
provide exact steps that can reproduce the issue.
Comment 10 Andre Klapper maemo.org 2010-03-17 13:13:56 UTC
If you can reproduce this again with 3.2010.02-8, please reopen this report and
please install Crash Reporter from the SDK Tools repository in order to send
coredumps directly to Nokia:
See http://wiki.maemo.org/Extras-testing#Tools_for_testers for a how-to.
If you are offered to add a comment for sending the coredump file, please
mention this bug number (like "see bugs.maemo.org bug number xxxx").
Also, a filename will be displayed after uploading the coredump. Please add the
name of that file here in the bug report.

This happened to me at UW as well. I wasn't able to install crash reporter
though. Seems like the repository is 404ing?

This doesn't seem to happen in all places with this proxy page. Only in the gym
here at the University of Washington.

Should work now again with 10.2010.19-1.
Comment 14 Ziling Zhao 2010-06-13 05:18:13 UTC
I have been unable to reproduce with 1.2
