Description Ryan Abel (reporter) maemo.org 2009-10-12 22:43:12 UTC
SOFTWARE VERSION:
1.2009.41-10

STEPS TO REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM:

1. Open the Applications menu.
2. Look for the Application manager.

EXPECTED OUTCOME:
The application manager that is a user's gateway to all of the amazing free
community software in Extras should get first billing in the Applications menu.

ACTUAL OUTCOME:
A _HYPERLINK_ to the Ovi Store gets first billing instead.

REPRODUCIBILITY:
Always

OTHER COMMENTS:
This is a pretty nasty slap in the face to all of the developers who've spent
so much time to get their applications up to speed for Fremantle only to
receive second billing to a hyperlink. I get that Nokia wants to push the whole
Ovi thing, but this Ovi Store link belongs as a shortcut on the desktop next to
Maemo Select, not pretending to be an application in the _applications_ menu (a
hyperlink is not an application, just, you know, fyi).

Besides the whole principle of the thing, this is also a rather obnoxious
usability impediment. What do you foresee yourself using more a Store or a
package manager?

Different proposal: Move Calculator from the toplevel App menu to the "More"
menu and put App manager back into the toplevel app menu so both community and
Nokia are happy?
Comment 2 Andre Klapper maemo.org 2009-10-16 23:14:02 UTC
(Moving application menu bugs to new subcomponent "Application Menu"
(previously "Task navigator") and splitting up Application Menu and Application
Switcher (Dashboard) bugs.)
Comment 3 Andre Klapper maemo.org 2010-01-04 20:15:42 UTC
There are no plans to change the current behaviour (int-139681).
Note that this will become a WORKSFORME once bug 6401 is fixed (and this is
currently considered).
Comment 4 Urho Konttori 2010-03-10 12:21:44 UTC
worksforme in pr1.2 (allows rearranging of the items as user pleases).
