Description fremwi (reporter) 2008-03-24 15:41:45 UTC
The management window with OS2008 proposes only a connection with a bluetooth
gps receiver (on a n800).

As I can'r find any category in Bugzilla related with usb, I post this feature
wish in the connectivity category.

I can't find any documentation about the possibility to connect a usb gps
receiver? Is this possible? If not, does this come from a hardware limitation?
If not, may this feature be added?

Yours

According to the wonderful community in #maemo on irc.freenode.net, this is
possible, hence closing:

<andre> anybody knows whether one can use an external usb gps receiver for the
n8x0 (not: bluetooth)?
<GAN8001> andre, yes.
<glass_> andre: should be possible. though, bt gps pucks are easier to come by
<lardman> andre: Should work, I seem to remember someone had a usb-serial
driver somewhere
<qwerty12> usbserial can be found in fanoush's module pack
<GAN8001> andre, google it, there are a few pages on the topic.
<qwerty12> Point maemo mapper to the new /dev/ttySx device
<lardman> andre: it should work as long as you setup gpsd to listen to the
right thing, but there's no GUI to do that for anythign other than the built-in
or BT GPS
