Description cooper.lau (reporter) 2008-03-18 19:06:14 UTC
SOFTWARE VERSION:
OS 2008 version 1.2007.42-19 and OS 2008 version 2.2007.51-3

STEPS TO REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM:
My brand new N810, which came with OS 2008 version 1.2007.42-19, did not have
any problem to connect to my Netgear WGR614v6 wireless router; however, after I
changed the SSID and WPA password on both the routers and N810, the N810 can no
longer connects to WGR614v6. Even after I configure WGR614v6 to broadcast
SSID, no security, and disable MAC filtering. The N810 will always return
"Network Connection Error". And I have the same problem with my work Wireless
router which is also a Netgear WGR614v7. Both routers have the latest firmware
from Netgear web site.

I then upgraded N810 to OS 2008 version 2.2007.51-3 and experienced the same
"Network Connection Error" message.

I tried the static IP address option that SpiralBrain suggested, and that did
not work for me.

I have also reset the N810 to the factor setting and clear the device;
afterwards, I still experience the same Network Connection Error message.

With my home's Netgear WGR614v6 router, I do not have any problem connecting my
laptop, my PSP, and my PS3 to it. While there is still possibility, it is not
likely that it is a router issue.

This N810, without wireless connectivity, is now a brick to me. Any help on
this is very much appreciated.

I searched the bug database and came across bug id 2464 in which the users
reported a very similar problem.

EXPECTED OUTCOME:
Able to connect to any Wireless router without any issue

ACTUAL OUTCOME:
Network Connection Error

REPRODUCIBILITY:
Always

EXTRA SOFTWARE INSTALLED:
None, out of box

Can you provide a dump?

Is this still an issue in Diablo with updates installed (4.2008.36-5)?

Please provide the exact firmware versions of the Access points.

A packet capture could help to clarify what causes the problem. Can you please
provide one? tcpdump can be used on the Nokia device (Wireshark/Ethereal could
be used from another host). Please take a look at
http://maemo.org/development/documentation/man_pages/tcpdump.html for more
information.
