Description Niels Breet (reporter) maemo.org 2005-11-11 14:29:39 UTC
Changing wlan transmit power from 100mW to 10mW can only be done in the
'advanced setting' part of the application.

To get there you have edit a wlan connection, press next, press next and finally
press next. And there it is, the advanced button. Shouldn't there be an extra
tab on the connectivity settings page, next to general and idle times?

Also transmit power settings are global. Shouldn't they be connection specific?

Transmit power defaults to 100mW, which gives you a lot less battery time. A
user should be able to easily change this.

The option of choosing the 10 mW transmission power is there only because
certain countries require this in their law. The low power transmission has a
negligible effect on the battery lifetime because the data is sent in short
bursts that last for less than 1% of total time. On the other hand, the lower
transmission power will make it harder to keep connected. Therefore it is best
to use the (default) 100 mW power, unless legislated otherwise in the law of
your country.

This setting is common to all WLAN connections (even though it is confusingly
located in the advanced settings of a connection). It shall be in effect for
both the predefined (that is, defined and saved by the user) WLAN connections
and for ad-hoc WLAN connections.

Resolving as WONTFIX with regard to Nokia 770.
