Description Jason Carter (reporter) 2007-11-29 17:08:11 UTC
STEPS TO REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM:
1) Connect to internet by wifi.
2) Connect to a Jabber server or create a new Jabber account.
3) Add MSN/AIM/ICQ contacts (requires a server that supports them).
4) View your contacts and note that their presence is properly updated (online,
offline, busy, etc...)
5) Reboot tablet.
6) Reconnect to the internet.
7) Reconnect to Jabber server.
8) Reopen Contacts application.

EXPECTED OUTCOME: Users in Contacts should show proper presence
information/status.

ACTUAL OUTCOME: A certain amount of your contacts will appear to have no status
information available (no presence orb) anymore, whereas they did before
rebooting. This is the same thing you see when adding contacts without presence
information. They show up at the bottom of the Contacts list.

REPRODUCIBILITY:
(always/sometimes/once)
It is very easy to reproduce the problem, however the amount of users the bug
impacts can change from time to time. Usually hits about 50% of my contacts at
a time.

EXTRA SOFTWARE INSTALLED:
Bug happens regardless of software installed.

OTHER COMMENTS: Looking at the affected contacts shows that the Contacts
application seems to have changed the contact type from simply being Jabber
(lightbulb) to a weird combination of Jabber and Google Talk (showing the two
icons together. Normally, it is impossible to add this type of field to a user
- it just doesn't show up on the list.

Fixing this issue manually is easy. Cut and paste the contact information from
the Jabber/Google Talk combined field into a Jabber only field. The user will
now show up with correct presence... until your next reboot.

This tells me that the Contacts application is possibly misreading a field on
startup.

See attached images for before/after pictures.

The Jabber server used here is Jablet.org. Other Jabber clients using the same
account do not show this problem, so this does not appear to be a server issue,
but a tablet issue. If someone at Nokia wishes to see this in action with the
contact list in question, please send me an e-mail directly and I will give you
the login information for the account in question.

These contacts appear to lose their association to the Jabber account they were
added to.

Restoring previous TM, priority, severity settings.

I don't yet see the issue in your screenshots. It's only that the third, empty
row is not displayed anymore, but I cannot see any data loss here?!

Which exact hardware, which exact software version (Control Panel > General >
About product) is this?
Comment 5 Jason Carter (reporter) 2008-06-17 20:26:13 UTC
Look at the account icons in the images. When it switches over to the combined
icon, those contacts appear to no longer get any status updates.

Impossible for me to update this bug because I no longer have my tablet.
