maemo.org Bugzilla – Bug 2405
Center dpad press is treated as <enter> key, triggering form submit instead of activating finger keyboard

STEPS TO REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM: 1. Make sure the browser homepage is set to the default. 2. Open a new browser window. 3. Press the center d-pad to attempt to activate the thumbboard. EXPECTED OUTCOME: Center d-pad would bring up the thumbboard to enter a query with (as the text entry box is highlighted and the I-beam is flashing). ACTUAL OUTCOME: Center d-pad sends an empty query to google.com, effectively redirecting the user to the exact same page he was just viewing. REPRODUCIBILITY: Always. OTHER COMMENTS: If the I-beam is flashing and the field is highlighted, the center d-pad should behave correctly and bring up the thumbboard. Seems like a bad feature to have it perform a completely redundant redirection to google.com

Bug 3640 is a bit similar for Modest - I assume this is still an issue with updated Diablo?

(Removing deprecated "Future" Target Milestone.)
What's the word here? One year later and still absolutely no progress?
This bug p*ssed me off so much that I used dpkg-repack to repackage the old browser from chinook and downgraded the browser on diablo, because there was no way I was going to use diablo with this bug. If anyone wants instructions on how to do this contact me.

This is a WONTFIX as the N900 will not have a dpad key and as Maemo4 will only receive critical bugfixes, if at all. No idea about any potential further Maemo Devices though, but if a dpad is provided again the underlying codebase will have changed radically anyway.
