Description dmg (reporter) 2007-10-12 21:41:49 UTC
EXPECTED OUTCOME:

Stay in the same directory as the source files when moving them to another
directory. Or add an option that the user can select to decide if stay in the
same directory or moved to another.

ACTUAL OUTCOME:

STEPS TO REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM:

Move a file from one directory to another using the stylus. The file manager
will immediately switch to the new directory. This is annoying when wanting to
move several files from the same directory to different destinations.

The request is for the view not to be switched to the folder into which you are
moving a file, but to remain in the folder you're moving the file from (the
expected and normal behavior in ever other operating system I've ever used).

This still happens in Fremantle and I think that it will be a WONTFIX.
You can argue in both ways: Sometimes you want to continue working in the
target folder, sometimes in the source folder.
I simply guess that you can never provide a solution that fits for everybody.

How does it work on every desktop on the planet? :)

Good question.
More feedback (KDE, Mac OS, Vista, XP) welcome, here's GNOME:

GNOME 2.24:
1. nautilus --browser
2. Make sure the "Tree" view in side bar is displayed (press F9 if required)
=> Target folder is not opened in right pane when dragging file(s) from source
folder in the right pane to the target folder in the left pane

Fremantle's file manager interface will be more spatial than in Diablo.
This was a design decision; same with opening the target folder after moving.
WONTFIX. :-/
