Description zcoffin (reporter) 2013-07-11 08:35:46 UTC
SOFTWARE VERSION:
(Settings > General > About product)

EXACT STEPS LEADING TO PROBLEM:
(Explain in detail what you do (e.g. tap on OK) and what you see (e.g. message
Connection Failed appears))
1. I followed the youtube video for installing CSSU - but clicked Stable
version.
2. When the N900 rebooted, it said 'Operating System updated' -- but the
portrait/landscape was not there in the status area. So I rebooted.
3.

EXPECTED OUTCOME: Working installation of CSSU

ACTUAL OUTCOME: N900 is not responsive. It boots up. And on the desktop, there
are new widgets. But if I click anything the graphic that opens the thing does
not go away. 'hanging graphic' For example, if I click the status menu, the
options do not go away if I press elsewhere in the screen. Also, the
application menu in the upper left corner never responds. I have no way of
getting to Xterminal or any application other than the widgets, and the widgets
open the programs in an unuseable way (first image/graphic hangs).

REPRODUCIBILITY: ALWAYS.
(always, less than 1/10, 5/10, 9/10)

EXTRA SOFTWARE INSTALLED: None. I had just had my n900 reflashed by a repair
shop and the only thing I did previous to CSSU is update/upgrade existing
things, using the Extras repository (not dev or testing).

OTHER COMMENTS: Love my n900 but am defeated by it.... :(

What is "the youtube video"? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uMHxo1ALXNE ?

I wonder if you can still install syslog to get some output:

Thanks for your interest and work.

I followed the other video listed on the wiki:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=fvwp&NR=1&v=DPVHOpGVzZY

BUT, since posting this bug, I was able to connect to Nokia PC Suite, reinstall
the firmware and begin fresh.

So I can't do the syslog now (though, i wouldn't have been able to previously).

I think I figured out what I did wrong. Either of the following --

1. When I updated & upgraded all the existing apps, before doing CSSU, I was
using the temporary repositories from January. If these files are outdated,
then that may be the cause?

2. I didn't update to kernel power before doing CSSU.

I'm now in the process of installing CSSU-Thumb. I've done the kernel thing
first (v50, stable). If I encounter same or similar problems with this update
to CSSU (even though it's Thumb), I'll post here.

Thanks very much to the community for keeping this going.
