Description Uwe Kaminski (reporter) 2011-09-02 10:38:02 UTC
This is a proposal where to implement a possibility to interact via terminal
directly eith the chess server.

EXACT STEPS LEADING TO PROBLEM:
1. Run Minature
2. Start a game -> OnlineBoard appears
3. Tap onto the chat history -> The chat area expands
4. Tap onto dark half transparent chat history and swipe left or right

EXPECTED OUTCOME:
The chat area should leave window and a similar looking (dark, transparent)
area should aoppear. This area should show the terminal output instead of the
last chat messaages and contain a button "send" instead of "chat" next to the
text input field.

This mechanism could be used later also to make possible chats with more than
one other player at the same time.

Yes, I also had thought about this. A problem of showing the fuill FICS output
is that the user might have the expectation of getting the full FICS input as
well and this might open many scenarios where Miniature might or might not
work. For instance, can you join tournaments? Can you play Bughouse?

Anyway, good suggestion but needs more thinking.

FICS is … uhm … very noisy. And I dislike the idea of terminal interaction. I
think that's what mainstream FICS clients get wrong – it's all too distracting
and not a very good user experience.

Alright, let's agree that we don't want to see all the terminal output. If
there is any message that is important then we can parse it and present it in
the chat area. Please reopen this report or open a new one if you find a
specific message worth displaying.
