Push mail and offline imap are not the same thing so I think that it's not a
duplicate of 11832. Please, reconsider it.
Is there a patch to be merged, do you know someone who is working on this or do
you know an architectural approach which would be followed?
If not, I'd say we should (I'm afraid) either move this to the main Modest
product or close it as INVALID. There aren't a bank of developers sitting
around waiting to code new features in the CSSU. People will work on something
which is their itch.
Yes I know. You are people, with your own lives... I would like to see that
implemented, but obviously I won't insist on it. So, I suppose that if it will
be implemented it won't be in a near future, so I must use ovi. Thank you
anyway for such great work you are doing.
Maybe the bug could be let open waiting for a developer with time and desire to
implement it. I suppose I won't be the only who want this characteristic...

The IMAP protocol has IDLE which allows the client to be notified of e-mail
without the client polling it, though it is limited to one mailbox per
connection. tinymail/modest do have the IDLE support, it was just internally
polling the file descriptor and disabled for Maemo5 to save power. I forward
ported and cleaned up a patch (along with a hole ton of fixes) which more
correctly uses a thread to do a blocking wait for the IDLE notification. I've
been running it for months, the biggest problem is sometimes (usually) I get
two notifications for each message, probably one triggered from idle and
another when it actually retrieves it I'm not sure.
Get the branch idle_work for both tinymail and modest.
