Description Aniello Del Sorbo (reporter) 2010-06-03 19:55:18 UTC
SOFTWARE VERSION:
10.2010.19-1

EXACT STEPS LEADING TO PROBLEM:
1. Leave Media Player running (not playing). I happened to have a Radio Station
open (again, not playing. Stopped)
2. Have Nokia Messaging set up to download mail automatically between certain
time (my settings: 8:00am - 11:59pm - Every day)
3. Have Connection Manager search for known connection every 30 mins.
4. Not sure it is related: have a WiFi that is not correctly working :)
5. When Nokia Messaging is supposed to download e-mail first time of the day,
the Internet connection should not work (not sure it's related, just what
happened to me). In my case at 8:00am no e-mail was downloaded. Before 8:00am I
clicked on Send&Receive in Modest, but no e-mail was downloaded.
5. Change to a different location with a different known WiFi (working one) and
wait for N900 to automatically discover it and connect to it at the specified
interval (every 30 mins).
6. Nokia Messaging notices it and start downloading e-mails

EXPECTED OUTCOME:
Step 7: Media Player should not start playing music.

ACTUAL OUTCOME:
Step 7: Media Player starts playing music

REPRODUCIBILITY:
1/1 (it happened once)

EXTRA SOFTWARE INSTALLED:
Not that many, nothing music or e-mail related.
Garnet VM
Mad Developer
Maemo Qt Extras
Mobile Map 9 (trial, no maps)
Mobile Weather
Vagalume
Xournal (of course :P)
xsnow (not running)
Facebrick
Fennec (1.1b2, nightly build)
Evernote
Angry Birds (without the new level)
Facebook (installed the plugin and widget. Widget not activated)
Foreca

OTHER COMMENTS:
Had Web Browser (bookmark), Xournal, Modest, Clock, SMS open at the time.
Calendar, Foreca Weather, E-Mail, Media Player widgets on the desktop.

I haven't touched the phone from when I left home at 8:05am.
Then pcked it up from the bag and left alone on the desk at work circa
10-15mins before the bug showed up.

Not sure if Nokia Messaging/Modest as anything to do with this bug.

Note to Andre: although similar, I don't think this is a duplicate of but #6907
Comment 2 Erkki Seppälä 2010-06-09 17:41:18 UTC
SOFTWARE VERSION:
10.2010.19-1

EXACT STEPS LEADING TO PROBLEM:
1. Connect to WLAN
2. Tune Media Player into an Internet radio station
3. Switch from WLAN to 3G
4. After music playing resumes, stop it, but leave Media Player open
5. Switch from 3G to WLAN

EXPECTED OUTCOME:
6. Media Player should not start playing music.

ACTUAL OUTCOME:
6. Media Player starts playing music

REPRODUCIBILITY:
100%. After the initial setup, I can keep switching from WLAN to 3G or vice
versa and it always starts playing by itself. Simply disconnecting from WLAN
and reconnecting again will do it as well. Closing Media Player and restarting
it restores normal behavior, until I again do the steps.

EXTRA SOFTWARE INSTALLED:
A lot. But this looks like purely a Media Player bug. Otherwise it's a
freshly-flashed PR1.2.

OTHER COMMENTS:
This looks like a regression. I would surely have noticed this behavior had it
occurred in PR1.1. (This is my second day with PR1.2.)
Also, #6907 may indeed not be the same bug, as in its steps or reproduction the
Media Player gets closed. In this bug, closing Media Player fixes the
situation.
Comment 3 Matti Viljanen 2010-07-06 14:45:30 UTC
I experienced something similar. I was listening to Internet radio via 3G, but
the music stopped because of poor reception, and I then disconnected the 3G by
hand.

Later the same day (hours later) I came back home. Apparently, the device
scanned for WiFi networks - as configured - connected to my home WiFi and
started playing the Internet radio again. (Boy, we thought we had gone bonkers
trying to figure out what that music was!)

I'm not sure if it was expected behavior or not. The radio played, started
loading to buffer and _then_ I cut the connection. I never stopped it
explicitly, but I did verify that the play/pause button showed me the "play"
symbol, that is, the playback was stopped. However, when it connected to the
WiFi, it also resumed the playback.

I guess my vote goes for implicitly stopping stream playback when manually
disconnecting from network - buffering, playing, or whatever...
Comment 4 Andre Klapper maemo.org 2010-10-25 18:13:10 UTC
Today Nokia released the Maemo5 update version 20.2010.36-2 for public (also
called "PR1.3" sometimes).

It includes a fix (mediaplayer 1.3-2+0m5 and mediaplayerhomeapplet 1.3-1+0m5)
for media player resuming when connecting to wlan that is expected to be
related to the problem described in this report.

If you have some time we kindly ask you to test again if the problem reported
here still happens in this new version 20.2010.36-2 - just leave a comment (and
feel free to update the "Version" field to the new version if it's still a
problem).
Comment 5 Aniello Del Sorbo (reporter) 2010-10-25 18:29:39 UTC
Updated to PR1.3 and re-tested:

. Had Media Player play radio station.
. Stopped play
. Disconnected from WLAN
. Waited for it to connect again automatically (and manyally)
. Radio DID not play as used to be

So for me it worked.
