Description Dan Klaffenbach (reporter) 2010-05-27 23:50:01 UTC
SOFTWARE VERSION:
(Settings > General > About product)
10.2010.19-1

In the previous firmware the media player displayed the cover art images for
all of the music correctly (from folder.jpg and/or embedded into the file).
After flashing PR 1.2 firmware and EMMC (aka fresh install) media player only
shows the album art images for ~50% of the albums on the device while browsing
the music.

This means:
When browsing for artists/albums in media player I either get ALL the cover
images for the albums of the same artist or NONE of the cover images. The weird
thing: when playing music back the album art is always displayed correctly in
media player, but never in the media player widget.

EXACT STEPS LEADING TO PROBLEM:
(Explain in detail what you do (e.g. tap on OK) and what you see (e.g. message
Connection Failed appears))
1. Put music on memory card, everything was working in PR 1.1.1
2. Flashed PR 1.2 and EMMC to get a clean device
3. Opened media player
4. Media player did not show all of the album art images any more (some artists
have all of the cover art for all of their albums, the rest have no cover art
at all for the albums)
5. Playing a song causes the cover art to show up in "now playing", but not in
media player widget

EXTRA SOFTWARE INSTALLED:
None. Clean device.

I was able to track down the problem: the album art does not show up for all of
the music which has been on the memory card before the firmware update.

To fix this, I needed to perform these steps (for all albums):
1. cd /mount/mmc1/Music/Artist/Album
2. rm -rf .mediaartlocal
3. touch *

Then the media player starts scanning for new audio files and recognizes the
album art of "Artist - Album" correctly. I assume the format of .mediaartlocal
has changed between PR 1.1.1 and PR 1.2. It would be good if this could be
fixed in the next public release as it might be confusing for many users.

Darn, this bug is already known for a quite long period of time.
