SOFTWARE VERSION: (Settings > General > About product) EXACT STEPS LEADING TO PROBLEM: (Explain in detail what you do (e.g. tap on OK) and what you see (e.g. message Connection Failed appears)) 1. Open xterm (or any other text element) 2. press blue-sym keys to pop up symbol keyboard. EXPECTED OUTCOME: It pops up. ACTUAL OUTCOME: It sometimes pops up. REPRODUCIBILITY: always EXTRA SOFTWARE INSTALLED: lots OTHER COMMENTS: Only two of the possible ways that the symbol keystroke might be entered work. Pressing blue, then pressing sym, releasing sym, releasing blue works. Pressing blue, releasing blue, pressing sym, releasing sym works. Pressing blue and sym together, releasing together sometimes works, depending on exact timings. Pressing sym first (even by an imperceptible fraction of a second) never works (leading to the above). In short - the order of the presses should not be important. Especially if both keys are pressed within (say) 50ms, and held for 300ms. Just tested again - Browser URLbar, xchat inputbox, 'web' open bookmarks/new page app, 'Notes'. Sorry - missed filling out the version - PR1.2
My N900 HW keyboard (i.e. the software of cause) causes the crash of every possible application (with text interaction, eg. this browser) when trying to access the symbols by pressing [FN] + [SYM]. I have quite a few apps installed. Tried to uninstall related apps but no luck.
Gustav: Unrelated to this bug report. Please file a separate report.
Internal comment by Nokia: "Sym dialog opens when you release Sym key while "Fn" is active. Fn is activated either by setting it sticky (pressing Fn and releasing it inmediately), or by holding it pressed while pressing another key. Thus, the two only possible ways to open Sym dialog should be: 1) Press Fn, release Fn, press Sym, release Sym 2) Press Fn, press Sym, release Sym, release Fn Fn is a modifier. Pressing Sym key and then Fn after that does not work, and IMO it should not. Marking as invalid."
