SOFTWARE VERSION:
10.2010.19

EXACT STEPS LEADING TO PROBLEM:
1. Connect to Skype

3. make a video call

EXPECTED OUTCOME:

I see him, he see me.

ACTUAL OUTCOME:

audio only

REPRODUCIBILITY:
always

EXTRA SOFTWARE INSTALLED:

OTHER COMMENTS:

Also tried:
- N900 -> Fring/s60 (with skype account)
- N900 -> Skype/Linux

Fring/s60 and Skype/Win32 are able to make video calls with other people
running Skype or Fring.
Comment 1 Marcin Juszkiewicz (reporter) 2010-05-26 18:36:03 UTC
So far works only with win32 version: 4.2.0.169
Comment 2 Sergey Vlasov 2010-05-26 21:36:56 UTC
Doesn't work for me either. I can enable video call *only* if a person calls me
first.
Comment 3 Roman 2010-05-26 22:09:55 UTC
I have noticed, that it is only possible to make a video call if a callee has a
camera to.

My understanding is that for video calls to work both ends must support the
H.264 video codec which is (to date) the very latest Windows client and the
N900.
Comment 6 ALLurGroceries 2010-05-27 02:33:05 UTC
I just tried it with the latest Windoze client and it does indeed work. Does
not work on the current Linux client. If the Windows client doesn't have a
webcam, video can be sent after sharing the screen on the PC, which can then
be disabled after the video from the N900 comes through.

I am able to make test call between my laptop with built camera and N900 but
unable to make call with another person from India with external Camera (
Quantum Webcam).

My webcam shows a connection yet it is also not displayed to the user. The
person says camera tries to come up but stop within a second or two.

The call passes between my laptop and user in India with successful
establishment of Camera from both side.

Video only works with the latest version of Skype for Windows. Does not work
with the latest version for OS X or Ubuntu 10.04.

This report mixes several issues. please avoid that.
Initial comment is about calling to Win32.

Which exact Skype version and which exact Windows version?

Windows XP, Skype older then 4.2.0.169. Friend updated skype to check.
Comment 12 Markus 2010-05-31 11:53:26 UTC
I am not able to make a Skype call to a Windows Skype client 4.2.0.169. There
is not Video Call button. The other person does not have a webcam. Other Skype
contacts have the Video Call button.

> There is not Video Call button.

That is bug 10461.
Comment 14 Rafael Ballagas 2010-07-21 03:29:46 UTC
I was successfully getting video working with windows, but not mac os x (skype
v2.8.0.851).
Comment 15 Andre Klapper maemo.org 2010-08-23 17:07:28 UTC
Without clear steps and info this will end up as WORKSFORME, and it will get
worse if everybody adds a "me too!" statement without providing system info...
=> moreinfo.

Comment 5 is right as far as I know, please check.

Please report to Skype to provide a non-ancient version of Mac OS X.
Out of scope for Maemo.
Comment 16 Dmitry Nezhevenko 2010-08-23 22:01:15 UTC
Unfortuantely such approach is broken by design.

Video calls in skype are present for huge amount of time. While asking Skype
for recent client for Mac/Linux/whatever is reasonable, supporting only latest
version is bad idea.

It'll be very difficult to ask every contact to update client because Maemo
supports only latest version...
Comment 17 maemozilla1piga 2010-09-14 18:30:15 UTC
I have observed the following behaviour:

- I (using skype and maemo pr1.2) can see myself in the small box
- I cannot see the other person I am talking too
- They cannot see me

I am sorry I cannot provide info about what version of skype client my contacts
were using. I can only say that, so far, I have not been able to use skype for
video calling.
Comment 18 Marcin Juszkiewicz (reporter) 2010-12-08 18:36:21 UTC
Nokia ended supporting Maemo5 and this application source code is not
available. No one will fix it so I close bug.
Comment 19 Andre Klapper maemo.org 2010-12-08 20:05:45 UTC
Marcin: Though you might be correct I prefer to close bug reports as WONTFIX
after getting a Nokia WONTFIX statement (if that will ever happen is a
different question). Hence restoring state. It's up to management (and maybe
involved developers) to decide about WONTFIXes.
