maemo.org Bugzilla – Bug 10305
Application Manager in PR1.2 says not enough space even though there is.

SOFTWARE VERSION: PR 1.2 Global. EXACT STEPS LEADING TO PROBLEM: 1. I flashed my N900 to PR 1.2 Global (Didn't flash eMMC) 2. I restored a backup made on the device to the build in flash (with the backup-app) 3. After restoring the backup I restored applications in the applications manager. 4. I had quite a large number of apps installed, some of them from extras-devel, it said it would need 2.6GB, I thought that since it needed that much it would install some of it in in MyDocs, so just clicked okay. 5. After some installing it says it ran out of space.. That was not true since it did have like 100MB free in /home at the time. 6. Now, when ever I try to install anything application manager says that theres not enough space. REPRODUCIBILITY: Always on my device, however I'm not sure if it has something to do with not reflashing eMMC. OTHER COMMENTS: Heres a dump of the Application Manager log trying to install a random package. hildon-application-manager 2.2.65 connected to 79b3b35b-3619-4445-adaf-10cbaf87a338 ----- Installing omweather-icons-shiny 0.3.2 apt-worker: free space (/) = 80756736 apt-worker: free space (/home/user/MyDocs/.apt-archive-cache/) = 4248043520 apt-worker: free space (/home/) = 162316288 apt-worker: total space (/home/) = 2113748992 apt-worker: You don't have enough free space in /home apt-worker: free space (/home/.apt-archive-cache/) = 162316288 apt-worker: free space (/home/) = 162316288 apt-worker: total space (/home/) = 2113748992 apt-worker: You don't have enough free space in /home apt-worker: free space (/var/cache/apt/archives/) = 162316288 apt-worker: free space (/home/) = 162316288 apt-worker: total space (/home/) = 2113748992 apt-worker: You don't have enough free space in /home required disk space: 639152 result code = 7
Hi, please start X Terminal and provide theoutput of the command df -h

Seems to me like apt-worker is calculating something wrong. I tried removing the package and installing it again.. no difference. Also I tried uninstalling a bunch of stuff, and sure enough when I had around 200MB free on /home I was allowed to install some packages ca. 1MB in size.. However it started complaining again after a few smaller packages was installed.. Still with around 175MB free space on /home.. weird?
Oh, just read my last post and noticed it can be confusing.. What i tried uninstalling and installing again was hildon-application-manager which includes apt-worker. Heres another guy with the problem: http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=54001
I'm having the exact same problem. I also flashed to PR1.2 Global and did not flash the eMMC. When restoring the applications backup it also ran out of space in the end (about 10 applications left) and told me I did not have enough free application memory. Here's my 'df -h' output (without the python stuff): Filesystem Size Used Available Use% Mounted on rootfs 227.9M 162.1M 61.6M 72% / ubi0:rootfs 227.9M 162.1M 61.6M 72% / tmpfs 1.0M 80.0k 944.0k 8% /tmp tmpfs 256.0k 104.0k 152.0k 41% /var/run none 10.0M 80.0k 9.9M 1% /dev tmpfs 64.0M 4.0k 64.0M 0% /dev/shm /dev/mmcblk0p2 2.0G 1.8G 113.9M 94% /home /home/opt 2.0G 1.8G 113.9M 94% /opt /dev/mmcblk0p1 27.0G 20.9G 6.1G 77% /home/user/MyDocs /dev/mmcblk1p1 3.7G 46.3M 3.6G 1% /media/mmc1 And here's the log of the application manager: ----- Installing petrovich 0.2 apt-worker: free space (/) = 64634880 apt-worker: Not handling unrelated package account-plugin-salut. apt-worker: Not handling unrelated package telepathy-extras. apt-worker: Not handling unrelated package account-plugin-salut. apt-worker: Not handling unrelated package telepathy-extras. apt-worker: free space (/home/user/MyDocs/.apt-archive-cache/) = 6552420352 apt-worker: free space (/home/) = 119463936 apt-worker: total space (/home/) = 2113748992 apt-worker: You don't have enough free space in /home apt-worker: Not handling unrelated package account-plugin-salut. apt-worker: Not handling unrelated package telepathy-extras. apt-worker: free space (/media/mmc1/.apt-archive-cache/) = 3902472192 apt-worker: free space (/home/) = 119463936 apt-worker: total space (/home/) = 2113748992 apt-worker: You don't have enough free space in /home apt-worker: Not handling unrelated package account-plugin-salut. apt-worker: Not handling unrelated package telepathy-extras. apt-worker: free space (/home/.apt-archive-cache/) = 119463936 apt-worker: free space (/home/) = 119463936 apt-worker: total space (/home/) = 2113748992 apt-worker: You don't have enough free space in /home apt-worker: Not handling unrelated package account-plugin-salut. apt-worker: Not handling unrelated package telepathy-extras. apt-worker: free space (/var/cache/apt/archives/) = 119463936 apt-worker: free space (/home/) = 119463936 apt-worker: total space (/home/) = 2113748992 apt-worker: You don't have enough free space in /home required disk space: 8952 result code = 7
I have the the same problem I a bit of an amateur so most of the comment have gone over my head in term of the finer details but I'm sure I'm in the same boat. My application manager stops at 246mb free. Can anyone shed some light on the way forward or how it works in Bugzilla.
(In reply to comment #5) > Here's my 'df -h' output (without the python stuff): > > Filesystem Size Used Available Use% Mounted on > rootfs 227.9M 162.1M 61.6M 72% / ... > /dev/mmcblk0p2 2.0G 1.8G 113.9M 94% /home ... > apt-worker: You don't have enough free space in /home Unlike rootfs (ubifs), home (ext3) isn't compressed, so less data fits into same space. A bit over 100MB is quite little space for a partition where you have all your thumbnails generated, tracker database, emails, contacts etc. changing content/data. Without knowing the reason for the limits, filling it more with just application manager sounds quite risky. (On rootfs the limit can be a bit smaller as it's data growth is mostly controlled by application manager.)
Still it seems a bit steep to reserve 200MB of space for it.. A better way to solve this IMHO would be to have a warning pop up when the device is running out of space..
HI I have the same problem too! "Not enough space to install application" it is also causing me problems when it comes to reading and storing SMS messages. I have deleted loads of applications, rebooted and still I fget the same message. Any solutions??? Thanks!

(In reply to comment #9) > HI I tried using the maemo flasher 3.5 do a complete eMMC flash but the phone failed to respond becuase of this problem. I took the phone to my local Nokia care centre and they were unable to fix it. So I had to send it off to Nokia Care with a form they gave me. I'm in the UK. Phone return with a factory resetand completely blank. Used back up from memory card to resort things and application manager work again. > > I have the same problem too!
