Status: RESOLVED FIXED QA Contact: multimedia-framework-bugs
Severity: normal
Priority: Unspecified CC: andre_klapper, frank.banul, mcychoy, philipdean

Description Philip Langdale (reporter) 2010-01-18 04:30:41 UTC
SOFTWARE VERSION: 2.2009.51-1.002
(Settings > General > About product)

EXACT STEPS LEADING TO PROBLEM:
(Explain in detail what you do (e.g. tap on OK) and what you see (e.g. message
Connection Failed appears))
1. Create an mp4 file with chapter marks
2. Attempt to play file from local storage or upnp

EXPECTED OUTCOME:
File plays

ACTUAL OUTCOME:
See 5 white dots or 'buffering' forever

REPRODUCIBILITY:
always

EXTRA SOFTWARE INSTALLED:
Many, but extra decoders and ogg support removed.

OTHER COMMENTS:
This is a regression. Files with chapter marks played fine (although chapters
are not supported) in PR 1.0. With PR 1.1 we now get this error. The only
option for users today is to remux their files to remove the chapter marks.

I see this as well. Removed chapters with avidemux and now the video plays.

Thanks for reporting this.

While they are fixing this bug, can we get support for Chapter Marks ??

Different issue, and to rephrase your question: "While your doing this, could
you please also quickly fix the 200 other issues related to it?"
Comment 6 Andre Klapper maemo.org 2010-01-22 13:39:34 UTC
Confirming that this does not work in 2.2009.51-1.
This works correctly again in the internal version 2010.03-10 so it has been
fixed later on.

A future public update will include the fix. (This is not always already the
next public update.)

To answer popular followup questions:
 * Nokia does not announce release dates of public updates in advance.
 * There is currently no access to these internal, non-public build versions.
A Brainstorm proposal to change this exists at
http://maemo.org/community/brainstorm/view/undelayed_bugfix_releases_for_nokia_open_source_packages-002/

Here is another follow up question..... does the latest internal version
support chapter marks ? Or do I need to file a new bug ?
Comment 8 Philip Langdale (reporter) 2010-01-23 22:49:13 UTC
For those who are interested, you can work around this bug by installing the
"subtitle support" package from extras-devel. It handles the chapter marks as
subtitles (causing a 'Chapter N' to appear at the chapter boundaries) - which
isn't exactly right but at least your video is playing.

General note also for those who are interested:
If you install software from extras-devel it means that you are a tester, not a
user. *Some* software in extras-devel might create severe problems (battery
drain, deleting data etc). Only enable such repostories if you are totally
aware of the risks - if not sure, wait until the software has reached Extras
after some testing and becomes automatically available via Application Manager
to you. Also see http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?p=343619
Comment 10 Andre Klapper maemo.org 2010-03-15 20:55:49 UTC
Setting explicit PR1.2 milestone (so it's clearer in which public release the
fix will be available to users).

Sorry for the bugmail noise (you can filter on this message).
