|Summary:||Feature request: Independent volume control, contollable with mousewheel from tray icon|
|Product:||[Extras] Vagalume||Reporter:||wilo <wilo108>|
|Component:||General||Assignee:||Alberto Garcia Gonzalez <agarcia>|
Hi there, I've recently discovered Vagalume, and it's really great! Thanks! One thing that would make it even better, is if I could control the volume by scrolling my mousewheel with the pointer over the tray icon. I've got used to the feature with RadioTray (http://radiotray.sourceforge.net/), and I find it so useful. Use case: I'm usually using PulseAudio to pipe the sound out to a bluetooth AD2P sink, and the ability to quickly and easily control the volume of the music independently without using the cumbersome PA volume control, or getting up and going across the room to use the hardware controls on my bluetooth speaker unit, is really valuable to me. Thanks for considering this, and thanks for vagalume!
This is actually a very simple change. It might take me a couple of days to find the time to do it, but consider it done. Thanks!
And here it is: https://gitorious.org/vagalume/vagalume/commit/8de29582af1a68a276bf02b449599ca5c6a91b62 If you want you can compile it and confirm that it works for you, otherwise just wait until the next release. Thanks!
wow -- great, thanks! one problem, though. I cloned, compiled and installed it, and PulseAudio crashed. I now can't get PulseAudio to work at all. It could be a coincidence, but it happened certainly within an hour of me installing the dependencies and the new version of Vagalume. Any guesses about what might be up? I'll keep digging, and post back here if I work it out, but in the meantime I'm unable to say if this works or not, just now!
Well, after a frustrating hour trying to work out what was wrong, I just trashed all the pulseaudio config and reinstalled everything. It's working now, and I can confirm the mousewheel volume control works very well, thank you! If you're still in the mood, a tooltip showing the current volume level would be welcome too, but by no means essential! Thanks very much!
argh -- I spoke too soon, sorry. This doesn't do what I wanted, sorry! The mousewheel over the tray icon controls the system volume for the primary sound output. I.e. -- it does exactly the same thing that mousewheeling over my regular gnome-alsa-mixer does. The whole point for me is that I need to change the volume of Vagalume independently of the global system volume, and regardless of which sound-output Vagalume is using. Right now I'm listening on my bluetooth speaker set, and mousewheeling over the Vagalume tray icon is controlling the global volume for my laptop speakers.... Thanks for your prompt attention to this, but it's not quite what I had in mind! I'm sorry if I perhaps didn't make my initial feature request clear enough, but I hope it's clear now!
