SOFTWARE VERSION: (Settings > General > About product) pr1.1.1 EXACT STEPS LEADING TO PROBLEM: (Explain in detail what you do (e.g. tap on OK) and what you see (e.g. message Connection Failed appears)) 1. Flash device with UK PR1.1.1 2. Accept time defaults when boots up. ( 1 jan 2009) 3. Check 'update automatically' is set in settings -> date and time 4. Start location widget. 5. Wait for GPS lock. Check 'fine lock' is obtained after a position is found. EXPECTED OUTCOME: Date/time is set from GPS or network. ACTUAL OUTCOME: Date/time is not set from GPS or network. REPRODUCIBILITY: 2/2 - I tried it twice. EXTRA SOFTWARE INSTALLED: none OTHER COMMENTS: This may be related to the fact that reportedly t-mobile - UK - at least - does not supply time information. However - time/date should be set from GPS also after 'fine lock'.
When doing this - there was a valid SIM, with an internet connection, and I tried connecting to it to see if there was any change - not. Also - wifi was setup.
As far as I know (I might be wrong!) time is synced by using GSM and not GPS. What makes you assume this? Or are some things mixed up here? :-/ (In reply to comment #0) > This may be related to the fact that reportedly t-mobile - UK - at least - does > not supply time information. Any exact URL for that info? How long did you wait until for time syncing after having a connection?
Regrettably, I can't find a source online - all search strings I can think of seem to fail due to pollution with related concepts. I have subsequently had the phone on for the time since, connected to t-mobile - and it has not automatically set the clock (I set the date correctly manually). (I reset 'automatically set clock' after this.) As to why I expected this to work from GPS - all three navigation devices I've had also have a 'set clock automatically' - that sets the clock from the GPS.
(In reply to comment #2) > As far as I know (I might be wrong!) time is synced by using GSM and not GPS. That's correct. According to bug 2750 this is roadmapped for Harmattan. IIRC Sygic mobile maps has an option to sync the clock with the time obtained from the GPS, so it should be possible for a community solution to be implemented. In the meantime openntpd (stuck in extras-testing due to lack of testers) is a good alternative IMO. (In reply to comment #3) > I have subsequently had the phone on for the time since, connected to t-mobile > - and it has not automatically set the clock This may be a blessing in disguise, see bug 5769 for how broken that is currently. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 2750 ***
As an additional point of information. I mention in the initial report that I thought that t-mobile UK did not set time. I installed syslog. On gaining signal. ... Bug was marked as duplicate of earlier bug, which was fixed. However, though the bug may be a duplicate, the resolution is not - as this isn't fixed in PR1.3 Tested - went outside, got fix with the desktop maps widget, confirmed this was a GPS fix. Turned off maps widget. Started up http://maemo.org/packages/view/gpsrecorder/ which got a fix, and indicated it had synced to GPS, and found a 32 second skew.
