Program
Help with the program
I'm happy having the role of benevolent dictator for the schedule on Friday 19: I organize the sessions submitted and if someone finds a bug or an improvement just complain and we'll find a solution. However, I really don't want to organize the sessions on Saturday 20, which is purely a maemo.org community day. Can you please find either another dictator or a system to get that sorted out yourselves? I'm asking for a coordinator at Maemo_Summit_2008/Organization#Program. Thanks!--qgil 09:45, 18 July 2008 (UTC)
Also, could someone draw nice tables for the schedules? I want to do this since.. but there is always something else taking the time. In principle each day needs a table with 3 columns (3 tracks), being some sessions single cells spanning through the whole row (no tracks, just one session at a time, or breaks). Appreciated. --qgil 09:45, 18 July 2008 (UTC)
Lightning sessions
These are really brief sessions of 5 minutes approx i.e. demos. You can propose yours below:
- i would like to present (properly this time) liqbase to an eager crowd - would need travel/accom arranging --lcuk 12:41, 24 June 2008 (UTC)
- Commited!--qgil 06:10, 4 July 2008 (UTC)
- "Converting videos on Linux using tablet-encode" - hopefully will drum up some interest in improving the UI --Jaffa 14:15, 4 July 2008 (UTC)
- You're in!--qgil 21:35, 4 July 2008 (UTC)
- "Debian in a chroot on the tablet, using a nested X-Server and a light WM (demo)" - I would love to talk (and hack) with people about this --qole 23:42, 7 July 2008 (UTC)
- "Maemo Bug Jar: Origins, Results, and Future Plans" sjgadsby 15:55, 16 July 2008 (UTC)
- In the list now. Thanks!--qgil 07:58, 19 July 2008 (UTC)
- Geocaching with gpxview and maemo mapper - Demonstration of how to use the tablet to locate geocaches in the world with gpxview (handling the POI information of the caches) and maemo mapper connected by DBUS.--asys3 17 July 2008 (UTC)
- In the list now. It is a bit unclear what is your relationship with the projects you are presenting, though. You might want to clarify e.g. in your profile or another URL. Thanks!--qgil 07:58, 19 July 2008 (UTC)
- i would like to present about rich user interfaces using enlightenment foundation libraries and python (python-efl, like canola and carman) User:barbieri It will be a quick demo of some new teasers I'll write and pointers to code so more developers can go after it later.
- In the list now. Thanks!--qgil 07:58, 19 July 2008 (UTC)
BoFs and workshops
List below your proposals for activities. There are thought to be highly participative i.e. discussion about an area of the platform, workshops, etc:
- Not sure if it's a BoF or a wider session (BoF would do), but I could imagine doing a "thing" on using mud-builder on producing packages for use with the Extras autobuilder. --Jaffa 21:07, 3 July 2008 (UTC)
- Proposed for Saturday. Please add descriptions, facilitators and links.--qgil 06:12, 4 July 2008 (UTC)
- There should be a session by the Task:Community Council assuming one is elected by then. --Jaffa 21:07, 3 July 2008 (UTC)
- Introductory session added on Friday. Feel free adding more related activities on Saturday.--qgil 06:12, 4 July 2008 (UTC)
- Package cleanup sprint/BoF/workshop: get some like-minded people (and preferably someone who's familiar with Debian packaging) with laptops and scratchboxes in a room, let them share packaging experience and fix problems with packages in Extras (unifying sections, adding missing icons, descriptions, menu items). --mgedmin 01:02, 4 July 2008 (UTC)
- Proposed for Saturday. Please add descriptions, facilitators and links.--qgil 06:12, 4 July 2008 (UTC)
- I want to propose a BoF about the new process for Diablo Extras. (Autobuilder, Promotion, Assistant) --xfade 08:02, 4 July 2008 (UTC)
- These look like good topics for the Saturday morning track on packaging and publishing. Please help defining the content of that track.--qgil 21:37, 4 July 2008 (UTC)
- We (Mamona developers) have proposed a session on Saturday to show how Maemo developers can take advantage of Mamona Platform flexibility/"hackability". We also believe that it would be nice have a BoF to hear from Maemo community ideas and its needs.
- Verrrrry good to see you ın Berlin.--qgil 08:54, 5 July 2008 (UTC)
- I would like to talk informally a bit on issues in porting applications to Maemo trying to integrate ways to take advantage of the peculiarities of the Maemo devices. The sessions/bof from mgedmin (about package cleanup), the one from xfade (about the new process for Diablo Extras) and the one from jaffa (about mud) and this one are somehow related. Tracks of Maemo Developments and particularly on the tools provided by the Maemo team (mud, extras repositories, hildon APIs, maemo packaging)--anidel 07:28, 8 July 2008 (UTC)
- This is a session for Saturday. Get yourself in the schedule or wait to the Saturday coordinator.--qgil 08:03, 19 July 2008 (UTC)
- I would like to talk about DSP programming, basically to encourage more people to have a go. I'm not quite sure what the best format for this would be, it's probably expecting too much for everyone to turn up with a computer ready to install a toolchain and get programming (or perhaps not); perhaps an informal (ask questions as we go along sort of thing) with examples of where and how, problems that might be met, how to use the DSP Gateway, data transfer, etc. -Simon Pickering [lardman] 09.16 16 July 2008 (BST).
- I suggest a lightning session introducing your work, and move anything else to Saturday.--qgil 08:03, 19 July 2008 (UTC)
- We would like to demonstrate and talk about WorldTV99 [bunanson and koos Vriezen] 09.16 16 July 2008 (BST).
- I suggest a lightning session introducing your work, and move anything else to Saturday.--qgil 08:03, 19 July 2008 (UTC)
- ( Pending Sponsorship ) Demonstration os Google data API's and their use in sync and data storage for the Nokia platform. I will demonstrate pull sync and, if I finish up the tools, full two way synchronization of images, notes, and possibly other data. brontide 04:37, 17 July 2008 (UTC)
- I suggest a lightning session introducing your work, and move anything else to Saturday.--qgil 08:03, 19 July 2008 (UTC)
- I'd like to propose a BoF about enlightenment foundation libraries (efl) for maemo, it could be also more broad and cover alternative rich user interface systems, like clutter and qt4/arthur. User:barbieri 20:33, 17 July 2008 (BRT)
- This is a session for Saturday. Get yourself in the schedule or wait to the Saturday coordinator.--qgil 08:03, 19 July 2008 (UTC)
- I'd love to see some sort of break-out brainstorming session or round table discussing current status / future desires for the Maemo platform as a whole. I think this crowd would offer much wisdom to the official team. --timsamoff 02:44, 18 July 2008 (UTC)
- I could put a session together based on the unofficial UI doc that I wrote (http://samoff.com/maemoui/), with a bent towards participant reaction, suggestion, and advice. Maybe something more community-driven would arise? --timsamoff 02:44, 18 July 2008 (UTC)
- I suggest a lightning session introducing your work, and move anything else to Saturday.--qgil 08:03, 19 July 2008 (UTC)
Travel
- I just saw ryanair offers free flights from Stansted to Berlin on the dates of the Summit (September 18th to September 20th). Only taxes apply, so it's only £20 to go back and forth by plane. From what I recalled, flights were 6AM on friday, 9PM on sunday, but their website just went blank, so I can't check it again. I'll try to see if it also works from other places. I don't know what you kind of discounts you get, but this might be interesting to look into. I'll check again when the website's back up --crashanddie 11:51, 3 July 2008 (UTC)
- It would appear bookings have to be made before Monday July 7th in order to get the £20 round-trip to Berlin. List of different cities that would appear to serve the Berlin airport, and can use this offer are: Stockholm (Skavsta), Frankfurt (Hahn), London (Stansted), Dublin, Milan (Orio al Serio) and East Midlands. --crashanddie 14:40, 4 July 2008 (UTC)
- Euroflights gives information on the various airlines which fly into/out-of Berlin --Jaffa 19:58, 3 July 2008 (UTC)

Accommodation
Moved to Maemo Summit 2008/Accommodation.
OSiM World entry
qgil, can you update this with any details of OSiM entry offers available to summit attendees; or at least an ETA of when information might be available? Cheap air/rail fares won't last forever :-( --Jaffa 21:12, 3 July 2008 (UTC)
- In case of hesitation book for the four days. We'll arrange something. Specially *you* will get access to all areas if you wish. I will call tomorrow the OSiM organizers. :) --qgil 21:17, 3 July 2008 (UTC)
Recording the Event

Advertising
I've submitted the event to the LWN Event Calendar. Is there any other wider advertising we can do? --Jaffa 11:55, 14 July 2008 (UTC)
